Safety center
8hues does not run criminal background checks on its members, and members' identities are not verified. Anyone can say anything on a profile.
Report and block
- Report: open the person's profile and tap 🚩. Choose what happened — harassment or threats, someone who looks under 18, an intimate image shared without consent, a scam, or something else — and add anything that helps. The person you report is never told who reported them.
- Block: on the same profile. Blocking works both ways and at once: you disappear from each other's map, chats, feed and reviews.
- An intimate photo or video of you, shared without your consent: use the removal request. You don't need an account, and we remove it within 48 hours.
- Anything else: email privacy@8hues.com.
How we handle harassment reports
Harassment means threats, stalking, hate aimed at who someone is, pressure for sex, photos or money after being told no, outing someone or threatening to, and contact that continues after you've blocked or asked someone to stop. It applies to members harassing each other anywhere on 8hues: profiles, messages, public chat, reviews and video calls.
- Every report is read by a person — the owner, for now. Reports about images of someone under 18, or intimate images shared without consent, alert us immediately.
- We look at what we can see: the profile, any reviews, public chat, and anything you include in the report. We don't read private messages unless a report is about them and checking is needed to act on it, and every such check is logged.
- We act on what we find. Depending on how serious it is: a warning; removing the content; restricting the account so it can only reply, never start conversations; or suspending it. Threats of violence, sexual content involving anyone under 18, and sharing intimate images without consent mean a permanent ban, and may be reported to the police or the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
- A ban takes effect at once, on every device the account is signed in on.
- Retaliating against someone for reporting is itself harassment and is treated the same way.
- Every decision is recorded, so a member who thinks we got it wrong can ask us to look again at privacy@8hues.com.
Staying safe, online and in person
- Use caution when communicating with a stranger who wants to meet you.
- You should not include your last name, email address, home address, phone number or any other identifying information in your profile or messages until you feel comfortable with the other person. Stop communicating with anyone who pressures you for personal or financial information or tries in any way to make you reveal it.
- If you choose to meet someone you met on 8hues, tell a family member or friend where you'll be meeting and when you'll be back. Don't agree to be picked up at your home. Always provide your own transport to and from the meeting, and meet in a public place with many people around.
- Anyone who is able to commit identity theft can also fake a dating profile.
- Video chat before you meet if you want more confidence that someone is who their photos say.
- Your position on the map is always shown offset from where you are. If you live somewhere easy to identify, make the offset bigger in Settings → Location privacy.
- Never send money, gift cards, crypto or verification codes to anyone you met here.
- If a meeting feels wrong, leave. You don't owe anyone an explanation.
Romance scams
A romance scammer builds trust fast and then asks for money. Common signs:
- They say they love you, or want something serious, very quickly — but can never video chat or meet.
- They are abroad, in the military, on an oil rig, or travelling for work.
- A sudden emergency: a medical bill, a plane ticket, customs fees, a frozen account.
- They ask for gift cards, crypto, a wire transfer, or for you to receive and forward money or packages.
- They threaten to share photos you sent unless you pay. That is sextortion: don't pay, stop replying, keep the messages, report them here, and report it to the FBI's IC3.
Report anyone who asks you for money, and read the FTC's guide, What to know about romance scams.
